Banco Alimentare is a nonprofit Italian organization that distributes food and collects surplus food from agricultural and industrial production.
Their mission is to redistribute these foods to charitable facilities throughout the territory that assist those most in need.
In addition to being active throughout Italy, the Italian Banco Alimentare is a member of the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) and is affiliated with the CDO Opere Sociali of the Compagnia delle Opere. The headquarters of this charity is in Milan and it coordinates the activities of the 21 regional organizations belonging to the Italian Food Bank.
Banco Alimentare is involved in numerous initiatives to fight food waste and to promote a culture of solidarity and mutual aid. Banco Alimentare, in addition to collecting and redistributing food, also organizes training courses to teach people how to handle food properly and to promote greater awareness of the values of food and its importance to health and wellness.
